Are you living your dream? Many people I’ve met have asked me this question, and my answer is always “yes.” As a child, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew I wanted to live in a foreign country where it snows all winter long. Many years later, I moved to the other side of the ocean, and I now live in Chicago, where it snows regularly in winter. So I could say my dream came true. BUT here’s the catch: I like snow, but I can’t handle the long, dark winters. The longer I live in Chicago, the less exotic it feels, and the challenges of being a foreigner aren’t getting any easier. So the lesson here is: be careful what you wish for. It may not be what you’re really looking for.
